About Open Studios
Silicon Valley Open Studios is part of a worldwide program that connects artists and art enthusiasts. It is also one of the oldest, largest and most popular cultural events in the greater San Francisco Bay Area. Its purpose is to acquaint the general public, art enthusiasts, collectors and others with the variety of works created by the artists who live and/or work in “the Valley”. The first 3 weekends every May, almost 500 artists from South San Francisco to Palo Alto to Morgan Hill and from Half Moon Bay to Santa Cruz , open their studios is to the public. Visitors can meet the artists in their work spaces, converse with them about their work and purchase art directly from the studio. It is an especially wonderful opportunity to introducing children to the world of visual expression and parents are encouraged to bring the entire family.
The variety of artworks to be seen includes handmade books, calligraphy, ceramics, collage, digital imaging, fiber, glass, jewelry, mixed media, assemblages, paintings (oil, acrylic, pastel, oil pastel, watercolor, etc.), drawings (graphite, ink, color pencil, etc.), photography, printmaking, and sculpture among others.
